Crowns

Dental crowns are a common restorative treatment used to protect and strengthen a tooth that is damaged, weakened, or heavily restored. At Crosstown Hershey Dental, crowns are designed to restore the tooth’s shape, function, and appearance—so you can chew comfortably and smile with confidence.

A crown is a custom “cap” that covers the visible portion of a tooth. It may be recommended if a tooth has a large cavity, a crack, significant wear, or a large filling that no longer provides enough support. Crowns are also often used after root canal therapy to reinforce the tooth and reduce the risk of fracture. In addition, crowns can improve the appearance of teeth that are severely discolored, misshapen, or uneven.

Getting a crown typically involves two visits. During the first appointment, your dentist prepares the tooth by removing damaged areas and shaping it so the crown fits securely. Impressions are taken—often digitally—to create a crown that matches your bite and blends with surrounding teeth. A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth while your permanent restoration is crafted. At the second visit, the final crown is carefully fitted, adjusted, and cemented in place.

Modern crowns can be made from durable, natural-looking materials such as porcelain or ceramic, which closely mimic real enamel. With good home care and regular dental visits, crowns can last many years. Brushing twice daily, flossing, and avoiding habits like chewing ice or using teeth as tools can help protect your restoration.

Crosstown Hershey Dental takes a personalized approach to crown treatment—focusing on comfort, precision, and long-lasting results so your restored tooth feels strong, looks natural, and functions reliably every day.
